Why do yoga for 40 days?!

Yoga is nothing new for me; I’ve been doing it for many years, mainly as a complement to my regular fitness classes at the gym, however I am not a hard-core yogi. What I love about yoga is that it makes me feel so good afterwards; just after one class I always slow down to the speed of life, my busy mind is calm and my body is moving much nicer.  As a bonus my face has a serene look and my expression lines are relaxed and not so visible anymore.  Finding that inner balance shows outer beauty and I see that connection on a daily basis in my skincare practice. 

I started to do yoga more regularly when Awakened Yoga Studio opened last year as it is close and convenient to my house and when I am back in town from a business trip I am always in a hurry to get into the studio.  They started off the New Year with a program I decided to join called 40 days to personal revolution that will challenge to transform body, mind and soul and lead to clarity of mind, body and spirit. 

Who doesn’t need that in this fast paced world?!   This program addresses most components of total well-being; exercise, nutrition, peace of mind.  To make it total well being I take care of my body with a 10-day mineral bath Kur

The good part is that you can go on with your normal life, however the hardest part to commit was to make time in my daily routine, rearrange schedules and make priorities without feeling selfish.  My guilt goes away when I remind myself why I joined; no expectations, simply respect for self and my passion for total well-being.

The program is six weeks of yoga, meditation, diet and personal growth and focus on how to make small positive shifts towards growth in ones life.  It is not a strict regime, rather a guided process to intuitively follow to integrate yoga into daily life.  It is based on the honor system and requires a deep commitment to self to follow through.  Baron Baptiste’s book 40 days to personal revolution and weekly meetings provide guidance and support. 

The commitment:

  • Yoga practice a minimum of 6 days a week.
  • Meditation twice daily-
  • Diet-daily recording of food intake and changes.
  • 3 day fruit fast
  • Personal Journal-personal reflections on specific excavation questions (designed to dig into and challenge/define personal beliefs and attitudes)
  • Weekly meetings will provide guidance, address goals and give support

I am excited for my temporary lifestyle change; maybe some changes will be permanent, who knows?  I am open!
