GLOBAL WELLNESS DAY – DAY 3: Don’t use plastic bottles

While Global Wellness Day might look a little different in 2020, the message is the same – a day dedicated to worldwide wellness and community, even at a distance.

We hope you enjoy this blog-a-day countdown honoring the 7 Steps of the Global Wellness Day Manifesto and how you can incorporate them into your daily lives all year long. Thank you to GWD founder Belgin Askoy and Gloria Treister for their inspiration and efforts for this noble cause! Learn more at

One Day Can Change Your Whole Life!

Once touted as a modern convenience, we now know that plastic is a source of virtually eternal toxicity to our world. Not only does plastic production require an enormous amount of energy and resources, leading to increased carbon emissions and global warming, only about 9% of all plastic produced is recycled. What’s more, about 60% of produced plastic is discarded into landfills and oceans. Since most of it is not biodegradable, it remains in the water for thousands of years, transforming into microplastic that contaminates our water and food supplies and our environment, flora and fauna alike.

In 2017, the US Environmental Protection Agency stated that the average amount of plastic waste per person in the US alone was 4.51 pounds each day. Have you ever stopped to take notice of how many disposable containers and items you contribute to the plastic pollution problem?

For Day 3 of Global Wellness, take the time to count the number of disposable containers you add the earth’s landfills and oceans in an average week. Then start taking these simple steps REDUCE your footprint, REUSE precious resources and RECYCLE otherwise wasted energy and materials:

1. Ditch & Switch

Avoid buying single-use plastic, such as ziplock baggies, drink bottles, plastic utensils, etc., especially for use at home. Whenever possible, replace these items with reusable materials.

2. Reusable Water Bottle

Instead of buying plastic drink bottles, carry a reusable alternative with you. Choose an environmentally friendly option, such as a bottle made from stainless steel or glass.

3. Reusable Straw

Bring your own reusable straw with you when ordering take-out or taking a drink from home. There are many eco-friendly options available. Reject Plastic on To-Go Orders – When ordering take out, refuse the plastic utensils, straws and plates offered with the meal.

4. Seek Out Non-Plastic Products

ANDA Skincare take pride in offering eco-friendly, sustainable and organic products. All of ANDA products come in recyclable materials – miron glass and recyclable aluminum tubes – with minimal plastic. The miron glass even helps preserve the quality of the products while reducing the use of plastic packaging, while aluminum tubes are recyclable once rinsed.

5. Reusable Tote Bags

When permissible, bring your own reusable bags for shopping, dropping off donations, etc., to reduce the use of the single use plastic bags.

With the resurgence of single-use materials during these uncertain times, it is even more important that we do our part to reduce, reuse and recycle. While the steps above may seem to only scratch the surface in reducing the plastic pollution problem, every little bit helps.
