Springtime Skincare

Spring break is here!  For me it always inspires a wardrobe makeover along with some serious spring-cleaning. It is also a great time to toss out outdated skincare and make up products and to re-evaluate the current skincare regimen.

Here are 7 tips on how to get a fresh, bright complexion as the warmer weather approaches:

springtime

Spring Cleaning:Check the dates on your products and toss the following:

  • Anything past the expiration date
  • Products that appear dry or crusty
  • Anything that has changed consistency, color, or smell
  • Anything with an SPF older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time and it’s just not worth the risk.)
  • Mascara older than three months. (Always toss it after three months, regardless of how much there is remaining.)
  • Old, dirty make-up brushes and sponges
  1. We are what we eat: A raw food diet improves skin quality immediately. I always enjoy each season’s fresh peaks with the easiest raw diet trick there is: green breakfast smoothies. My favorite “skin smoothie” right now: spinach, avocado, blueberries, pineapple and ginger with almond milk and ice.
  2. Professional treatment: For spring choose a facial that focus on increased blood flow, exfoliating dead skin cells and stimulate cellular activity while infusing skin with hydrating ingredients that will help shed dull winter skin and give skin a healthy glow. Schedule a Microdermabrasion Treatment with Rejuvenating Oxygen Facial for instant skin rejuvenation.
  3. At-home treatment: Exfoliate more often with a gentle scrub, about two to three times per week, to reduce sebum and stimulate the natural cell renewal process. Try Kerstin Florian Clarifying Exfoliating Scrub that utilizes natural Jojoba beads.
  4. Change Moisturizer:  Switch from a cream to a lighter lotion. Products with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, liposomes and peptides deliver deep hydration without clogging. Go for an oil-free formulation if you already have oily or combination skin such as Kerstin Florian Daily Hydrator.
  5. Wear SPF: It should always be part of your daily routine and especially during the spring and summer. Either use a daily moisturizer with a sunscreen in it, or layer a sunscreen on top of a regular moisturizer.  My favorite for all skin types is Kerstin Florian’s Multivitamin SPF 30.
  6. Lighten up. Switch to FACE Stockholm Tinted Moisturizer with SPF instead of applying heavier foundations that can make complexion look dull or sallow. Or for medium coverage try FACE Stockholm BB Cream, an all-in-one product that helps even skin tone while still letting natural radiance shine through. Includes light moisturizer, SPF, and nurturing anti-aging ingredients.
  7. Brighter colors: Refresh your look with lighter and brighter make up colors, check out FACE Stockholm Spring 2014, just in!

*For sensitive skin: During nature’s renewal allergy sufferers might experience flare-ups that can cause puffy eyes, swollen sinus areas, and redness on the nose and cheek area. A cool compress before applying makeup can help to reduce swelling (sometimes oral antihistamines will improve this skin condition as well). Keep dry patches of skin moisturized with products formulated without irritants such as chemicals, parabens or fragrances. My all-time favorite: Transderma M.
